CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
Preferred credential: Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field.
Required: Family Development Credential (FDC) within 18 months of hire.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Willingness to work as a team member that communicates effectively with students, teachers, parents and administrators individually and in a group.
•Must be sensitive to and willing to work in addressing the needs of children and families of various cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.
•Ability to maintain confidentiality.
•Must have a valid Kansas driver's license.

 

REPORTS TO:
Head Start Director and Assistant Director

NKESC Executive Director

 

JOB GOAL:
The FSW will work with families to develop a strengths-based plan of action to meet their needs and use community partners to assist families with meeting the goals they have set for themselves.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Recruit children and families for the Head Start program.
•Develop and maintain communication between the family and the Head Start teaching team.
•Promote family engagement in all facets of the Head Start program.
•Enter data into the databases in a timely manner to facilitate communication.
•Protect confidentiality of all family information.
•Create community partnerships that facilitate accessibility to services for families being served.
•Advocate for services needed in a community.
•Assist staff with developmental screenings and review health records to ensure that children receive recommended treatment and follow-up.
•Complete regular home visits, phone calls, emails, meetings, etc. with families.
•Assist families in the development of their Family Partnership Agreement.
•Assist families with transitional activities into Head Start and from Head Start to another program.
•Participate in staff meetings and Family and Child Together events
•Collaborate with teachers, paras and other classroom staff to provide seamless services to assist children and families.
•Consult with parents, teachers and other school personnel to determine causes of problems and provide options for assistance.
•Participate in activities most likely to lead to professional growth.
•Problem-solve with teaching teams to establish alternative strategies for children needing additional support.
•Perform any other duties as directed by NKESC administration.
