QUALIFICATIONS:

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of at least a Kansas License to practice audiology.
Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license.

JOB GOAL:
To provide audiological services to identified students. To assist member districts in identifying students with hearing loss.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervises the organization of the school hearing screening program. This involves: a.Coordinating the screening program with the school health nurse and/or speech
pathologist through an in-service training program. 2. The audiologist establishes procedural guidelines for medical referrals. 3. The audiologist is responsible for the comprehensive audiological evaluation consisting of
standard pure tone air and bone conduction testing, speech testing, and middle ear
impedance testing. 4. When a hearing loss is identified, the audiologist will perform tasks such as: a. Determination of the range, nature, and degree of hearing loss, including referral for
medical or other professional attention for the habilitation of hearing. b. Determination of the child’s need for group and individual amplification, selecting and fitting appropriate aid, and
evaluating the effectiveness of amplification. c. Provision of habilitative activities such as language habilitation, auditory training, speed
reading, hearing evaluation, and speech conversation. d. Counseling and instruction to parents. e. Consultative services to classroom teachers, special services team, and administrators. f. Classroom observation. 5. Manage the use and calibration of audiometric equipment. 6. Assess central auditory function. 7. Submit required medicaid/third party billing documentation as directed. 8. Maintain a log of activities as directed to meet local, state, and/or federal guidelines. 9. Provide supervision for paraprofessional/clerical personnel as directed by administration. 10. Perform any other duties as directed.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
- Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed materials with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; and physical agility to reach overhead.
- Ability to move between schools, school buildings and multiple rooms.
- Ability to interact with students that meet’s their physical, emotional and psychological needs.
